Rowena Sanders went Banana’s for World Animal Week October 2009 in Wellington.

The beginning of a New Year is always a good time to think about change for the better.

At WSPA, we promise to continue to make changes around the world in order to create a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty ends. If you’re thinking about making some changes in 2012, we’d like suggest ways to give yourself true motivation to succeed.

A new way for you to help animals

Right now you may be making some promises to yourself that will make you feel better about the year ahead, like - 'less work, less stress, more exercise'! So we thought we might help you find a few events around the country, that could help you on the path to creating a 'new you’. And at the same time, create a new way for you to help animals in great need, by having your efforts sponsored!

Promising to stick to a new fitness programme, as simple as  “I will walk every day for 30 minutes” can  be hard and we can all look for excuses….so why not promise to walk or run once a week, every week for a month and have family and friends sponsor you? That way you can think about the animals and motivate yourself out the door, when you need that extra push!

The trick to reaching those goals

Raising money for WSPA and helping the animals, while helping yourself get fit (on any level), could be a definite win for 2012! The trick to keeping on track is to not make it too hard on yourself. You’ll feel better about your achievements if you know they are within your reach and when you achieve them, both you and the animals could benefit hugely!

Going that extra mile

But for those who want to go that extra mile (literally!) check out the events below for some inspiration.  Whatever style of activity you choose, why not rally a team of friends or even workmates together, especially for those bigger challenges? More people, involved, will mean more support and motivation for you and you might raise even more money for WSPA and the animals in the process.

Go on…just do it
